Days here begin with spectacular sunrises and end with breathtaking sunsets on the water. You can fill the time in between with anything you want to do.
Nearby, you can explore Cheaha Mountain State Park (Alabama's highest spot), Noccalula Falls or DeSoto Caverns. Those with a need for speed can visit Barber Motorsports Park and Museum or check out Talladega Superspeedway and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. Shoppers and bargain hunters will find antique stores and malls, flea markets and boutiques scattered throughout the area. Restaurants with a local flavor as well as your national favorites are within easy driving distance.
If you have romance in mind, River Rest is the perfect spot for you. In this peaceful haven, you'll find it easy to kindle a new romance or rediscover why you fell in love in the first place. The B&B quickly is becoming one of the Alabama's premier honeymoon and anniversary destinations.
Privacy is one of the key amenities at the bed and breakfast. All five guest rooms have private baths and none shares so much as a wall with another. Although the B&B offers guests a number of activities, they often find it hard to leave their rooms. All of the king-size beds feature Simmons Beauty Rest mattresses with pillow tops. That comfort, combined with the high-thread-count linens, make oversleeping a common occurrence at River Rest B&B.
When guests are awake, they can be as laid back or as active as they choose. The decks, porches and gardens overlook a white, sandy beach dotted with colorful umbrellas. Rocking chairs, a hammock and a swing all tempt visitors to sit and do nothing.
Those who can work up the energy can take a walk along the tree-covered trails in the woods or borrow one of the B&B's golf carts and explore more than three miles of roads with views of the lake.
After all that activity, it may be time to relax again, perhaps with a soak in the hot tub or a cozy gathering around the fire pit.
All of the common areas in the country inn are available for guests' use and the three living rooms, one with a 20-foot span of glass, have marvelous views of the water. They make a wonderful place to watch the high-definition televisions or to grab just one more nap.
River Rest Bed and Breakfast is only an hour from Birmingham, and less than two hours from Montgomery and Huntsville. If you are visiting the lakeside retreat from Atlanta, you can leave work at 5 p.m. and be watching the sun go down over the lake by 6:30 p.m. (Remember, you gain an hour traveling from the Eastern Time Zone to the Central Time Zone so you have 60 more minutes to unwind and enjoy the countryside.)
Fancy, but not snobbish. Country, but not bumpkin. River Rest Bed and Breakfast is made for playing hooky from the world for a day, a weekend, a week or longer.
