River Rest Bed and Breakfast on Lake Logan Martin is a premiere Alabama vacation spot. This secluded lakeside retreat is the ideal setting for a romantic getaway for two. You don't have to take our word for it, though. Read through our guests' comments below, and discover why many of them are looking forward to their next visit at River Rest.

My wife and best friends from college were back in Talladega for a 40th class reunion during the last weekend in April, 2011. We were overwhelmed by the beautiful setting, great accomodations, and fabulous breakfasts that Richard prepared each day. He and Ellen are the kindest and most gracious hosts that you could ever imagine. We have stayed and 5 star hotels all over the world and our experience at River Rest Bed and Breakfast ranks right up at the top. We'll be back.

You just can't go wrong at River's Rest. What a great destination. Wish we could spend a week. These are the friendliest Inn Keepers we have met! From the boat ride to the golf cart tour of the area, this B&B was top notch from start to finish. The food was outstanding, the ambiance was perfect, down to the calico cat on the front porch, the peacefulness of the entire area was exquisite and the hot tub soooooo relaxing. The only downside is having to leave at night to go get dinner, so we carried a picnic and ate it on the back porch. It doesn't get any better than this!

Our stay at RiverRest had to be the most enjoyable and memorable trip that I have ever taken. Generally you look for a place thats nice, clean, and accessible to any additional activities planned. Therefore, you research wisely for the best location via the web on countless sites.
When booking our reservation, Richard (referred to as the Inn Keeper in most blogs) said he wishes that he could take pictures that would better illustrate the rooms and grounds that way people would know exactly what they are getting. Well, he did just that, but what a picture cant capture is the over all experience. Its not your traditional B&B, because it was so delicately designed to make each and everyones stay enjoyable and unique to there own needs. From the well designed rooms, to the common area that makes you feel at home, a kitchen Emeril would say,"BAM", a view of the lake, and outside grounds that anyone can enjoy countless activities. All brought together by two people who genuinely love entertaining and together bring a sense of humility that doesnt exist anywhere else.
I would more than recommend RiverRest, because Richard and Ellen made it a home away from home. Needless to say referring to them as Inn Keepers devalues there purpose and why River Rest exist. Thats inviting friends into there home to enjoy what God has given them through FABULOUS food, fellowship, and great Southern Hospitality!!!
By the way, Richard, I have NEVER scene Posey laugh so hard in my life. You completely ruined his disciplined eating habit from his 1700 diet with the FOUR Course breakfast you so elegantly prepared.

Beautifully prepared rooms and wonderful views and surroundings! The attention to detail in the little things (makeup mirrors, for example) make this place stand out amongst the others. Great cooking and the host bent over backwards to make sure we had a pleasant stay. We recommend taking advantage of the dinner he cooks over the weekend.

Wonderful restful weekend, and the best part was the renewal of old friendships with Richard and Ellen. We second all the good comments that have been written about River Rest. May the Lord continue to bless you two with everything that you put your hands to. We love you always.

A load of gratitude and thank you's to our special hosts, Ellen and Richard. You made my visit with my brother one that I won't soon forget. Your hospitality and generosity shines high above any other B&B. Your place is absolutely beautiful... everything was perfect. I'm still trying to figure out how to put the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on in my truck. Thanks for a great breakfast and fantastic guitar serenade.

While traveling through the area, our recent one night stay in the River View room was a very much needed and welcome escape for us. The house was clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated and more importantly, the king bed was like sleeping on clouds. We viewed deer in the woods behind the house and Canadian Geese and other fowl out in the river. At night, we enjoyed drinks by the fire pit as the moon rose over the river. What a sight! We had a true Southern breakfast-the grits were better than mine! We will definitely return. If you are in the area, stay a night or two. I can truly say it was our treat.

This was our first experience at a Bed and Breakfast. I told Richard and Ellen that they had set the bar for us. Their home was beautiful and what a view, from all areas of the house. Richard and Ellen made us feel at home and at ease. It was really a perfect week-end. We met some great couples and had fun talking with them around the fire pit. Also, Richard is quite a cook, we left very spoiled. Thanks for a great week-end. We hope we can come back someday.

What a wonderful surprise for our first B&B! We were welcomed with a friendly smile and made to feel at home by Richard and Ellen. Our room was private and very comfortable, the view of the lake was incredible, and the hot tub relaxing! The breakfast was great - we are trying to duplicate the recipes at home. We are still laughing at Richard's jokes! Thanks for a great weekend, we hope to be back soon.

We have been to over fifteen bed and breakfasts in our travels, this one has cornered the market on the term "Southern hospitality." Richard and Ellen are genuine, gracious, and friendly. Their home is spotless and relaxing. Some of our favorite things: the porches, the fire pit, the hot tub with view of the lake, the super comfy bed. Our breakfasts were always a treat. Richard even made sure we made it out onto the lake for a boat ride before we left. If you go....eat at "Fat Man's BBQ," best smoked pork sandwiches we have EVER had! We hope to go back again someday....

We had a wonderful weekend. We love staying here because we can combine work and play. They have available wireless internet and satellite TV in every room. All TV's are flat screen in the rooms with a huge plasma screen in the great room. The great room is very comfortable for both temperature and sitting or watching movies. And since they have a huge plasma screen tv with surround sound, watching a movie makes you feel you are at the movies. The decks provide a nice area to sit outside and discuss things with others or just read a book. The view of the Lake Logan Martin(?) is beautiful, which can be easily seen from the great room, as well. There is so much peace that you couldn't help but be relaxed. The bedrooms have their own bathrooms, so you don't have to share with others. The beds are huge and very very comfortable. We all were rested from the sleep we were able to get. The breakfast is fit for a king and/or queen. We felt like Royalty and family all at the same time. There is an optional boat ride for those who want to see the area. A beach area for those who want to get some sun and water fun, as well. There's a hot tub available for use and its view is even big because it also overlooks the lake. There were even homemade cookies for us to have whenever we wanted. There is so much detail to give about why we recommend this place as a getaway or business trip we could go on forever. Ellen and Richard Mixon are very accommodating and are great hosts. We will definitely be returning. Thank you for a weekend retreat that was a treat.

What a fabulous getaway!! It was so close, yet seemed so faraway and relaxing. Richard and Ellen couldn't have made our first B&B experience any better. Nothing can beat an evening sitting by the fire pit or in the hot tub, watching a harvest moon! You never want to get out of the really comfortable bed, but when you do breakfast is way too good to describe.

I made reservations here for my daughter and her husband on their wedding night. The owners were incredibly friendly and allowed me to drop in the night prior and place a large basket of snacks and a flower arrangement in the room they would occupy the next night. They also took the time to show us their beautiful home and the decor of the guest rooms. I noticed everything was spotless and very tastefully decorated! My daughter and her husband said they really enjoyed staying here and that the breakfast was out of this world! This is a fantastic place!!!

We had a great time! We went for our honeymoon, just for the night, but Richard and Ellen made us feel very much at home. It was the perfect mix of privacy and comfort. Great Breakfast as well. Thanks so much, we will definately be back soon.

This was our first B&B experience, and it was a truly fantastic weekend! The house is beautiful, the rooms are inviting, the breakfast is delicious, and the atmosphere is one of peace and relaxation. Whether you have plans in the city nearby or just need some time to get away, Richard and Ellen make you feel like you're visiting with dear friends! We thoroughly enjoyed meeting the other guests and spending time with each other with no other agenda. Thanks, Richard and Ellen, for a truly wonderful weekend. Even though we made the reservations, we know who really had it all planned out! Hope to see you again soon!

A truly wonderful experience!! Beautiful home, lovely grounds, great dinner with the locals at Finchers, relaxing dip in the hot tub, guitar sing-a-long around the fire, restful night sleep on a bed of clouds, a superb veggie omelette prepared by Chef Bruce, a stroll to the Lake with a cup of coffee and a departure sprinkled with gentle raindrops. Who could ask for more?? And yet there was!! A Host and Hostess, who feel Blessed with what they have and generously allow it to be yours for the length of your stay, guests, some of whom were so finely tuned to your interests, you have to believe that HE chose them specifically!! and a "natural" closeness to God, like no other. We came home better people...NO DOUBT!!

Our experience was simply wonderful. Our room was cozy, our bed slept well. The house is warming, the hot tub made me feel like a millon dollars, the porch is beautiful, the golf cart was fun but most of all, your hearts are very compassionate, welcoming and friendly. We felt like we've known you a lifetime. We appreciate your christian spirit and witness. God bless always, we will visit soon. Oh yea, thanks for the breakfast and fruit. It was delicious!

River Rest Bed and Breakfast is the nicest B & B we have ever stayed in, and the inn keepers were determined to make our stay enjoyable. We loved getting into the hot tub after the sun went down!
